A simple thought exercise will answer that question for you. Try putting yourself into their shoes. Insane wealth, plenty of time on their own hands, dealings concerning big money, big societal and global issues, power, control, influence, can do whatever they want, people rarely say "no" to them, feeling important... all of this can and will lead to delusions on grandeur for a certain group of individuals.
Now, ask yourself this. Have you ever thought of yourself as being better than someone else or certain groups of people? Have you ever thought of certain individuals or groups (regardless of the reasoning, being true or false, or your state of mind like being angry, etc.) as worse than humans, that you had ill will towards them? Even for a brief moment or a short period of time? Have you ever hated anyone for whatever reason and wishing them ill will? Have you ever felt good when you did better at X than others? Yes, we are talking about human nature here.
Take all of that to the extreme. When you do that, it is not far-fetched to start thinking of other humans as vermin, slaves, your subjects to control and manage, to see them as useless eaters... especially when you look from the top with all the money, power, control, and power you possess. You see and compare the things you are doing and what others are doing and achieving, depending on their position in the social hierarchy...
Delusions of grandeur are a real thing. They can create hate and disdain for others that are below you. It can lead you on a dangerous path, in which you will work either towards the destruction of society and humanity or to saving it from itself... The problem is that both of these efforts will lead to the exact same outcome.
